Kelly’s powerhouse vocals hit you instantly. With a voice outshining most of our time, and enough to challenge some of the all time best vocalists, she can lend her vocals to any genre.
Kelly claims she is self taught, having grown up mimicking the songs of Celine Dion and Whitney Houston in her very early teens and childhood.
‘All the girls in my primary school wanted to be the next Britney Spears, but i wanted to be Shirley Bassey! -with a voice so loud and powerful it would just scream out for an arena tour to echo around! I’d sing for hours locked in my room, basically shouting the words to Celine Dion’s ‘It’s All Coming Back To Me Now’ and the rest of her greatest hits album! Until gradually the shouting became singing! And i never stopped singing from there really!’
Kelly began writing at the young age of 13, after developing her technique on song writing and development courses. She left school of an evening and often rushed to work with various songwriters and producers, knowing from that young age that music would be her priority in life and that would be all she cared about. Consequently, her grades suffered somewhat!
After finding a love for old trance anthems in her teens, Kelly soon began to write in a genre influenced by synths and the dark tracey vibe of early Ibiza. And combined with the currency of dub- step and the darker rockier edge surrounding Kelly’s vocal, a new genre was developed as Kelly’s own, a kind of dark dub- trance…
Kelly is somewhat a perfectionist, choosing to write lyrics almost as poetry, with metaphors and deep meaning, and not succumbing to the clichés often used in popular music. Most of her tracks are written with positive outlooks, particularly women inspiring songs!
‘If i’m being really honest… I have no time for depressing, self pitying tracks, or slow mushy love songs… Music was traditionally written for fun and enjoyment, and i think it should stay that way! Even if i feel low and write a song about something negative, i will always put a positive spin on it, as i want to empower people with my singing and my words!’
The last year (2011) has seen Kelly’s profile increase dramatically after writing with top songwriter and producer Ryan Laubscher (behind Pixie Lott) amongst others…
Kelly’s unique and effective songwriting talents have also gained equal attention to her vocals, with grime stars KIG and Gracious K featuring Kelly on their new material this year, and top DJ’s also choosing to work with her on new projects. It seems Kelly is creating a buzz in more than one way!
2012 potentially is going to be a huge year for Kelly. She is set to be featured on a brand new prime time, major network tv show called Rule Britannia, set to air early 2012, is going on tour in 2012, And will be releasing her first single very soon!!!
